See Humanitarian Relief Efforts Below

Najim Chechen knew at an early age that he wanted to be a sculptor. He received an academic training in sculpture and later received his MFA from Pratt Institute. He worked as an apprentice for five years with a master sculptor and learned how to cast larger than life monumental sculptures. His adventures also included visiting numerous artists and craftsmen in many Middle Eastern and North African countries where he discovered centuries old low-tech methods and techniques. From his travels throughout Europe and the U.S. he encountered new materials and modern techniques. He has completed dozens of commissions for clients in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East.

Recently he opened his own atelier school and foundry, Fine Art Studios and  founded the Hudson Valley Sculptors Society. "I aim to represent the invisible spirit and make it visible. All my figures look with anticipation and with hope. They are vulnerable but they love life and have a will to survive.”

" In recent special humanitarian relief exhibitions, my latest works reflect the dreams for
the future that Iraqi people have. The moms, dads and kids of Iraq have dreams too, just like everyone else.
In my pastels that show colorful veils fluttering in the breeze, these veils represent magical dreams of freedom, hope
and peace. With my recent sculpture, I aim to represent the invisible spirit and soul and make it visible. All my figures
peer out at the world and ask what will follow next. They look with anticipation, with hope.
They are vulnerable but they love life and have a will to survive."

The proceeds of the sale of this new work will be used by the artist to send
humanitarian assistance to his extended family in Kirkuk, Iraq.
